Rev. Dr. Abigail Atkins

Therapist

The Rev. Dr. Abigail Atkins is an Educational and Clinical Psychologist, having received her Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco. She is a Fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. She has 20 years of experience working with children and adults in various settings doing evaluation and therapy. Abigail is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ with a M.Div. degree from Claremont School of Theology. Her areas of interest include working with children, families and adults.

Dr. Atkins does “play therapy” with children. It is non-directed time where the child explores his/her concerns, learns techniques to cope more successfully and gains a stronger sense of competence. With adults, she does a combination of approaches, including cognitive behavioral, psycho-dynamic, and solution focused. She teaches self-care techniques and body awareness to aid in awareness of their self-defeating thoughts.
